‘Avatar’ overtakes BO collections in the North
James Cameron’s magnificent spectacle in its 3D version in English is clearly ahead of Hindi films such as ‘3 Idiots’ in multiplexes in the Northern belt (predominantly a Hindi speaking market). While the collections of Aamir Khan’s film were reported to be Rs 24 Lakhs from the 4 major multiplexes where 3D is available, ‘Avatar’ raced ahead with a collection of around 39 Lakhs. In fact in PVR Select City & PVR Ambience, ‘Avatar’ (3D) has already grossed a record breaking 1.5 Crores each.
Even in its 4th week of release, ‘Avatar’ is still ruling the Indian Box Office and having grossed Rs 83 crores till date, it is all set to become the biggest Hollywood film ever in India.
The collections from the 3D screens is more than encouraging – with 54 3D screens (9%) contributing to 35% of the total three week box office collection in India.
Worldwide too, the film has beaten all competition and has now hit the No.2 spot by becoming the highest grossing movie (globally) of all time after Cameron’s own ‘Titanic’.
