Will 'Kites' soar higher than '3 Idiots'?

The fateful Friday has arrived and the much hyped Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori starrer Kites is getting the grandest release any Hindi film has got so far.

There are multiplexes that have as many as 31 shows per day and if the advance bookings of the film is to go by, ‘Kites’ is set for a mammoth opening, even bigger than that of the Aamir Khan-starrer 3 Idiots. Whether it will break the box office record of the latter depends upon how much substance it has.

But one thing is for sure: the movie will attract a lot of footfalls in theatres in its initial days. It’s been about two years since Hrithik Roshan’s last release as solo actor Jodhaa Akbar and the audiences are pining to see him on the big screen again. And then there is this huge buzz about his chemistry with the Mexican actress Barbara Mori. Thirdly, it’s a film directed by Anurag Basu, the man who has given us fairly gripping movies like Gangster and Metro.

So while trade pundits believe that ‘Kites’ has every chance of emerging a bigger hit than ‘3 Idiots’, our source who saw the film at its London premiere says the film did not live up to the expectations.

Good or bad, it’s gonna rake in the moolah at box office anyway.
